The Counselling Process

What to expect when you come for counselling with me:
1
Initial Contact

After I receive contact from you, I will arrange a free phone call. This gives us the chance to have a chat, and you are welcome to ask any questions that you have. It is the beginning of our working relationship, and it is crucial that you feel that I am the right therapist for you.

2
Your first session

I look forward to greeting you in my home. My counselling room is designed to be a sanctuary with comfortable furnishing, plants and soft lighting, aimed at providing an atmosphere of calm.

On our first meeting, we will contract how we will work together. This is a short document explaining the ethical guidelines I follow to ensure that I give you the best quality of service. It includes information about confidentiality, cancellations and what you can expect from me. We can then begin to explore your concerns in more detail. This can include looking at your background, life events, and current challenges.

3
Following sessions

We will continue exploring your concerns at a pace that feels comfortable to you. This is your space, and it is important that you feel safe to bring whatever you need to and know that you will be listened to and valued. As this is private counselling you can take as many sessions as you like. It is a collaborative process, and my role is to support you to find your way and feel confident to move forward in alignment with your values.

I will offer therapeutic strategies and techniques to assist with this journey, but it is your choice whether you wish to try them or not. Please have a look at my training to see what these could be.

4
Review and Evaluation

As counselling progresses, it is important to review achievements and challenges. We can work together to evaluate outcomes, celebrate successes, and identify areas for further growth.

5
Ending

Usually, you will know when you have reached the end of your counselling journey. It can be an emotional moment when you realise that you have found peace and now feel confident and resilient.
